The U16 girls ended their season loop by participating in the York North Loop Championship Tournament. Huge congratulations to the U16 girls this year that fought hard to capture the bronze medal by joining forces to create one spectacular Richmond Hill team. With some impressive defense and offense, their hard work paid off. Competing against Aurora, Stouffville and Newmarket, the U16’s played hard, placing 3rd of 5 teams. Congratulations to all the girls and coaches for a remarkable and successful season this year!

Thanks to all the parents, coaches and kids who braved the soggy, cold weather to proudly represent and support RHMSA and Softball in Richmond Hill by marching in the 2017 Richmond Hill Santa Claus Parade! Despite the wet weather, we had a good turn out. Everyone joined in to spread the holiday spirit and to also wish everyone a Merry Christmas during the 2km march. We would like to give special thanks to Coach Monica for organizing the event, Coach Sergio for picking up the hot coffee and cocoa to keep us warm and the hardcore parents and kids (you know who you are) who continue to come out year after year to support. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Once again, RHMSA is excited to announce our participation in the 2017 Richmond Hill Santa Claus Parade! We are calling on all softball players, family and friends to show their holiday spirit and proudly represent RHMSA. We had a successful turnout in previous years and we would like to top that this year!

The Richmond Hill Santa Claus parade is being held on Saturday, November 18 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. This year, the theme is “True North Strong and Free”! RHMSA participants will meet at the staging area prior to the start time to line up for the parade, time to be determined. Participants are welcome to wear their full uniforms (but wear some warm clothing underneath!), caps and bring their ball gloves and smiles.

If you’re interested in participating in the parade, have questions or want to help organize, please email: dir.comm@rhmsa.ca. Kindly include how many people will be participating, e.g. 1 adult, 3 children. Remember: All are welcome to join in on the fun!

The 2017 U14 Select season was an interesting one with the majority of the team comprising of last year’s U12 Select players who moved up. With two senior U14 veterans, Kyla Ciomyk and Caitlyn Wunderlich, the team set off for their journey.

The team participated in five tournaments this season: Brampton, Brantford, Etobicoke, Richmond Hill and the OSSTA Championships, held in Brantford. The first tournament was an indicator of the competition the team would face all season.

At the OSSTA Championships on August 26/27, 18 teams participated. Of the four teams that Richmond Hill faced, three were new opponents. RH faced Exeter in the final game of the round robin. The RH girls played their best defensive game all season against a powerful and strong Exeter team. Exeter’s pitching was top notch and created difficulties for our batters, however the Rebel girls were on their game. With a low final score of 5-2 and a win by Whitby, the Rebels advanced to the elimination round.

On Sunday morning, knockout day for the tournament, the Rebels played Etobicoke. Unfortunately, some misplays in the first and second inning yielded a lead too great to mount a comeback and the Richmond Hill Rebels fell to a good pitching Etobicoke team. Overall, Richmond Hill finished in 10th place out of 18.

Team roster (in no particular order): Serena, Ruby, Sophie, Melissa, Kyla, Rosanne, Vanessa, Abigayle, Caitlyn, Evette and Ava.
